I grew up on a farm near Aulne, Kansas. I accepted Christ as my Savior during revival services at the Aulne Church and was a faithful member until 1958 when my membership was transferred to the Parkview Church.
When I would finish working on the fields in the summertime, My buddies and I would drive to Hillsboro for tasty burgers and milkshakes at the Dari-Ette. It was there I met the love of my life, Betty Friesen. I was not an “A” student but was very gifted in math which served me well in my choice of occupation. I first worked at Paramount Products in Peabody which sub-contracted parts for Boeing Aircraft Company, then was a tool designer of agricultural equipment at Hesston Corporation, and finally a 24 year career as co-owner of Marion Die and Fixture. My coworkers would tell how my brain worked faster than what my speech could convey. I considered honesty and work ethic very important.
Because God gifted me with an eye for design, I was able to draw the plans for the addition of Sunday school rooms and the activity center at Parkview Church. I also designed the initial landscaping around the church and at the Gnadenau Cemetery and spent volunteer hours keeping the churchyard and cemetery beautiful. I considered it such a blessing to be able to do that. I served many years on the Trustee Board which was a joy for me and I also totally supported my wife, Betty, who was church secretary for 24 years and served in various leadership capacities.
